Alan Brown
Alan is a director with over 28 years’ knowledge and experience as a chartered quantity surveyor. He has worked on a variety of heritage, conservation and listed buildings in addition to community, residential and public realm works.
Alan studied at Edinburgh Napier University, where he graduated with a degree in quantity surveying, before joining Thomson Gray in 2006.
Using his specialist knowledge and experience, he has been involved in several high-profile refurbishment projects and has worked on many of Scotland’s historic castles.
He deeply understands the issues involved with complex conservation projects – where he is required to interact with multiple stakeholders including the client, design team consultants, heritage statutory bodies and external funders.
Alan also has extensive knowledge of civil engineering and infrastructure works, successfully delivering cost advice on core infrastructure and masterplans for new build residential communities. Alan leads our internal quality management team in his role as quality management representative.
He is active in leading others in all technical aspects of construction cost management and is currently an external assessor at Edinburgh Napier University for the School of Computing, Engineering & the Built Environment.
